A resilient urban future between the 3rd and 4th industrial revolutions.

FabCities are on their way, somewhere between the 3rd and 4th industrial revolutions; will they succeed? The 3rd revolution announced by Jeremy Rifkins in 2011 expects fablabs and makers to take the lead toward a radical transition, while the 4th revolution, announced by Klaus Schwab at the World Economic Forum in 2016, forcasts the transformation of regular factories within the capitalistic model.
Via a series of future research achieved at LIID Future Lab in the recent years, we will see how pivotal have become the efficiency of collaborative networks and constellations, the urban scale, the mobilization of hybrid communities, and the design on new economic models.  This session will be an occasion to check and discuss with the audience how ready we are.
Projects mentioned: "Future of Factories and Fabrication" (IHEST, Ministère de la Recherche, Paris, 2017-18); "Future of urban resilience" and "The rising city, future of social and urban innovation" (Peclers Future Trend, 2017-18); "the soft-power of creative labs" (GDI Future Institute, Zurich, 2018); "Paris Galaxies, a future for the Greater Paris" (Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne University, Paris College of Art, Paris 2030 Program, 2008-2017) including "Paris Ars Universalis, scenario fiction d'un futur Grand Paris" (Collection Avant-Garde, L'Harmattan, 2017, 190p), a design-fiction experiment staging various forms of collaborative platforms to make the Greater Paris.

FabCity Skills Development and Pathway Learning with Digital Badges

Digital badges can be used to evaluate, communicate and structure skills and learning. Concretely, at the technical level, a digital badge is a single web page that contains all the information (metadata) concerning the development of a skill or an achievement. There is the standard "Open Badges" that can carry a badge from one platform to another. To prototype solutions, we need to digitize skills development and recognition with digital badges in the circular economy and Fabcity movement. This technological usage can also synchronize learning pathways across organizations in new workforce needs and challenge new collars skills development.
