Social Economy + Technology. Local Production: Developing Social Economy SMEs supported by a Fab Lab

IDIT Fab Lab Puebla has been working in developing local production capabilities through the incubation of Social economy initiatives in Puebla Municipality.

Based in the hypothesis that if a social economy enterprise in the base of the pyramid has access to technology, its probability of success augments exponentially and that if one supports local social economy SMEs will be capable of solving local problems with local capabilities and global knowledge and with a very low cost for every work post generated.

With this in mind, we developed a Social economy + Technology model and applied it in Puebla Municipality in ten neighborhoods with high margination and violence.
Last year we helped 296 initiatives, this year we are working with 312 enterprises with very high success parameters.

Due to Puebla’s success, we started a program in eight states in Mexico working with young individuals in risk of violence supported by local and international funds, especially in areas of low income and high violence.

Lars ZIMMERMANN, The City Is Open Source
How and how to hack cities for circularity

The talk will introduce you to the idea of sustainable (circular, open and free) cities and explain why hacking seems to be the only viable technique to invent and create these cities. A quick theoretical introduction will be followed by a catalog of examples for city hacks reaching from hacking urban furniture to hacking large-scale infrastructures. Some hacks have been done and some are yet to do.
