Maria Alejandra ROJAS (Design Morphine)

Manufacturing tools have allowed architects and designers in different fields to fabricate, prototype and build complex geometries. These tools have created an easier transition from the digital spectrum into a tangible materiality. There is a wide variety of innovative design-build research utilising robotic arms to build pavilions, quadcopters to weave structures and 3D printers to print concrete houses. However, are these tools scalable? Could larger structures be built utilising any of these tools? This talk challenges the existing fabrication tools utilized in architecture by questioning its feasibility for large-scale construction.

Ioana VALERO (CivicWise)

Today we can make our own furniture or create a collective garden ourselves. It would be great to go further and get to make our own house. But, is it possible to produce a quality housing from a bottom-up approach? Open Source Design tools are making design accessible to a larger public. In this sense, Habitat Fabrik App can be used to design your own house, optimize the design and facilitate the communication with architects.

Nancy OTTAVIANO (Quatorze)

As the world knows strong motions of populations, how may we change the ways of welcoming people in European metropolises and capital cities? The project IMBY, meaning In My Back Yard, proposes to unveil the existing civilian will of help toward refugees by setting tiny houses in private family gardens. The tiny houses are agile and flexible architectures to welcome refugees in cities. Aiming at an agile and resilient city, Quatorze promotes and develops social and solidarity architectures. We explore ways of doing things together: co-design and co-construction. Imby is becoming a reality through a progressive and iterative process which started thanks to an international architectural competition. After setting the concept, a network of partners enabled our team to build the first prototype. Later, mixing public funding and crowdfunding the prototype was changed and adapted to be set as a home located in a garden in Montreuil. Inhabited for few months this first piece of architecture deeply interlaces with social workers involvement. Imby is a transitory housing, from 3 to up to 12 months, leading to an eased autonomy in hosts countries. Within the next two years, 5 tiny houses will be installed in the Ile-de-France region.

Tristan GOBIN, HAL Robotics
Construction and robots : a short insight

Which robotics for construction? What a story about robots up to present? What are the permeabilities between the classical industry and the construction sector, still new to the subject and late in term of automatization? What educational and material resources have been made available on this subject in the teaching of future engineers, architects and designers? What are the productions that allow to glimpse the construction techniques of tomorrow's city? What research exist in this sector?
